🌿 Your stop at the mill on the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela

The Moulin de Salazar welcomes pilgrims on their way to the village of Lauzerte in Tarn-et-Garonne.

Situated just a few minutes from Lauzerte, the Moulin de Salazar has always been a popular stopover for walkers on their way to Santiago de Compostela. The hilltop village of Lauzerte is the 19th stage of the famous Via Podensis (GR®65), and it's here that we meet our guests to take them to the mill.

The Via Podensis (GR®65) or PUY Way, a UNESCO World Heritage site

Known as the Via Podensis or Voie du PUY, the GR®65 route crosses the western Tarn-et-Garonne region. This part of the Chemin de Saint-Jacques holds a special place in the hearts of many pilgrims, and for good reason: it leads to the villages of Lauzerte, Moissac and Auvillar, 3 medieval villages steeped in history and legendary stops on the road to Compostela.

The GR®65 route starts in the Auvergne village of Le Puy en Velay (hence the name Voie du Puy) and leads to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in the Pyrénées Atlantiques. Considered one of the most beautiful paths on the Route de Saint-Jacques, the GR®65 is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A hike through the lush green landscapes of Quercy Blanc

In Tarn-et-Garonne, the Via Podensis winds its way through the lush green landscapes of the Quercy Blanc region. Arriving in Lauzerte is always a moving experience: you'll love wandering through the narrow medieval streets and admiring the scenery from the old ramparts of this town, listed as one of France's most beautiful villages.

The path between Lauzerte and Moissac is the 19th stage of the GR®65: a 27 km route through the green hills and orchards of the Quercy Blanc region, ending on the banks of the Canal des Deux Mers which borders the village of Moissac, where you can visit the famous Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Moissac.

Southwestern gastronomy on the GR®65 itinerary

Walking along the GR®65 route also gives you the opportunity to discover the region's local specialities. Gourmet and generous, south-western cuisine enjoys a well-justified reputation, and is given pride of place in the Moulin's kitchen. Our table d'hôte menus always feature fresh local produce: home-baked bread and pastries, fresh eggs, local cheeses and dairy products for breakfast, seasonal fruit and vegetables including the famous Chasselas grape, and traditional dishes revisited for dinner. To suit everyone's tastes, our dishes can be prepared with or without local meats and charcuterie: simply specify your request when booking.
